How Resin Bound Surfaces Resist Weather Damage
10 AUG 2018

The recent hot weather across the UK may have been a welcome relief after a long British winter, but high temperatures and other extreme weather can have a marked effect on the external surfaces in our homes and workplaces. Traditional materials such as brickwork and concrete can be damaged during periods of exceptional weather including heatwaves, heavy rain, snowfall or below-zero temperatures, causing cracking and waterlogging on surfaces such as driveways. Fortunately, there are a range of modern surfacing systems that are far more resistant to seasonal weather conditions, one of the most popular being Resin Bound Surfaces.
Here we look at the benefits of Resin Bound installations, and why their composition offers more resistance to the damage caused by the weather.
resin bound surfaces
UV stable
Resin Bound Surfaces can be treated at the time of installation to be UV stable, meaning that the new surface will be better protected from sun damage. This helps to reduce cracking or warping during a period of hot weather and can also lower the rate of discolouration.
Drainage
Resin Bound installations are manufactured to offer a very high level of porosity. This is very useful in times of heavy rainfall as the effects of water pooling are reduced considerably, promoting easy run- off and better drainage.
Freezing
Due to its high porosity, Resin Bound Surfaces are far more resistant to the degradation and damage caused by heavy freeze and thaw cycles. This makes them a fantastic option for use in areas with harsher winters and greater exposure to the elements.
Safety
The gravel-like texture of Resin Bound Surfaces means it has a far greater slip resistance than other materials when conditions are particularly wet or icy. This is particularly useful when applied to surfaces used primarily as a driveway or walkway.
